Adult Swim Releases First Official English-Subbed Trailer for Uzumaki Anime Adaptation

Adult Swim has released the first English-subbed official trailer for its highly anticipated Uzumaki TV anime series. The anime will broadcast on the programming block on September 28, 2024 and will be streaming the next day in the U.S. on Max.

The new trailer highlights the many spiral-based horrors that begin to haunt Kirie’s hometown.

Hiroshi Nagahama (Mushi-Shi) is directing the 4-episode limited anime series at Studio Drive and Studio Akatsuki. Colin Stetson (Hereditary) is serving as the music composer and Aki Itami (Forest of Piano, Flowers of Evil) is writing the scripts. Production I.G USA and Adult Swim are co-producing the anime.

Meanwhile, the anime’s main voice cast stars:

  • • Uki Satake as Kirie Goshima
  • • Shinichiro Miki as Shuichi Saito
  • • Mariya Ise as Azami Kurotani
  • • Toshio Furukawa as Kirie’s father
  • • Takashi Matsuyama as Shuichi’s father
  • • Mika Doi as Shuichi’s mother
  • • Katsutoshi Matsuzaki as Katayama

Junji Ito’s original Uzumaki horror manga was serialized in Shogakukan’s Big Comic Spirits magazine from January 19, 1998 to August 30, 1999. A total of three tankobon volumes were released, with VIZ Media releasing the manga in English for North America.

The manga also inspired a live-action film adaptation in 2000.

Warner Bros. Discovery describes the synopsis of Uzumaki as:

“Let’s leave this town together,” asks Shuichi Saito, a former classmate of Kirie Goshima, a high school girl who was born and grew up in Kurouzu-cho. Everything from a strange whirlwind, billowing smoke from the crematorium, and the residents is turning into spirals. People’s eyes spin in whirls, a tongue spirals, and the bodies twist unnaturally. In an attempt to escape the curse of the spirals, Kirie decides to flee from Kuouzu-cho, but can she get away from this turmoil?
