Let’s take a look at what you can pre-order this month:

The House of the Lost on the Cape

Release Date: 19th June 2023

Technically a brand new license announcement, but was theatrically released across specific locations as part of the Japan Foundation Tour Programme festival, The House of the Lost on the Cape is coming to home video, and will be released as a Blu-ray & DVD combo pack in a collector’s edition package.

The early bird offer is £24.99 (£22.50 for Anime Unlimited members) and pre-orders will open on Thursday 4th May.

Retailing for £39.99 SRP, the set includes a rigid box with an o-card slipcase, Blu-ray case, and a 24-page booklet. Audio options include Japanese with English subtitles and the Studio Nano English dub commissioned by Eleven Arts.

The House of the Lost on the Cape is based on Sachiko Kashiwaba’s novel that serialised in 2014. The anime adaptation is produced by studio David Production (Fire Force, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure) with staff credits including director Shinya Kawatsura (Non Non Biyori), writer Reiko Yoshida (K-On!, Non Non Biyori), and music composed by Yuri Miyauchi. The anime is also part of the ‘Zutto Ōen Project 2011 + 10…’ which is a remembrance of the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake.

“17-year-old run-away Yui and 8-year-old Hiyori, who lost her family and her voice, have no place to go when they run into Kiwa, a strange old lady. She offers them a place to stay, in a slightly banged-up old house overlooking the sea, a Mayoiga.

Despite joining Kiwa on a whim, the two girls find comfort in the Mayoiga, a legendary house said to look after lost travelers, and the warm hospitality of Kiwa. Both girls’ damaged hearts begin to heal little by little as time passes. Until one day, a variety of strange beings which Kiwa calls “Fushigitto” begin popping up around the house…”

JUNK HEAD

Release Date: 26th June 2023

The stop-motion film JUNK HEAD was recently released in select theaters throughout the UK by Anime Limited, and soon folks who weren’t able to watch it on the big screen will be able to own the home video release, which will be presented on Blu-ray in a collector’s edition package.

The early bird offer is £24.99 (£22.50 for Anime Unlimited members) and pre-orders will open on Thursday 18th May.

Retailing for £39.99 SRP, the set includes a rigid box, Blu-ray case, a replica poster of the Japanese theatrical release and a 32-page booklet. Audio options include its original audio with English subtitles.

JUNK HEAD is an original film project created by Takahide Hori who spent seven years making and producing over 140,000 shots. The film has been presented across multiple film festivals including London International Animation Festival and Strasbourg European Fantastic Film Festival.

“Mankind attains longevity through gene manipulation, but finds itself on the road to extinction when the species loses the ability to reproduce. Their clones who rebelled 1,600 years ago are now known as Marigans and rule the bottomless underworld. Some of them seem to have become fertile and the government takes this as a ray of hope and decides to send civilians in to carry out an ecological study. Selected for the mission, Parton sets off on an adventure through a subterranean labyrinth crawling with monsters in order to secure humanity’s future.”

Princess Jellyfish

Release Date: 12th June 2023

Last but not least we have another license rescue from the KAZE UK era and one that has been semi-leaked thanks to its inclusion on ITVX streaming service. Princess Jellyfish is back and will be making its UK Blu-ray debut. Plus it’ll also be presented in a collector’s edition package.

The early bird offer is £34.99 (£31.50 for Anime Unlimited members) and pre-orders will open on Thursday 25th May.

Retailing for £59.99 SRP, the set includes a rigid box, Blu-ray case, and a 32-page booklet. Audio options include Japanese with English subtitles and the Funimation English dub.

Princess Jellyfish is based on Akiko Higashimura’s manga released in 2008, which is also available in English by Kodansha Comics. The anime was adapted by studio Brain’s Base (Golden Kamuy Season 4, In/Spectre) with staff credits including director Takahiro Omori (Baccano!), writer Jukki Hanada (Love Live! School Idol Project), and music composed by Makoto Yoshimori (Durarara!!).

“Plain, timid, and obsessed with jellyfish, Tsukimi is a far cry from her idea of a princess. Her tepid life as a jobless illustrator comes complete with roommates who harbor diehard hobbies that solidify their status as hopeless rejects. These wallflowers run a tight nun-like ship, but their no-men-allowed-not-no-one-not-no-how bubble is unwittingly burst after Tsukimi brings home a rescued sea jelly and a beauty queen – who’s actually a guy. When the threat of losing their cozy convent inspires this glamour boy to turn the neurotic entourage into a portrait of success, will Tsukimi take her chance to bloom or will she end up a hot mess?”

That concludes all of the home video early bird offers for this month’s slate.
