Announcement: September of the Space Battleship
About Me and Science Fiction Stuff
Hey everyone, it’s my birthday. I’m celebrating it by doing the most Scott thing ever. Announcing the next big event for this blog space. You know, going over the films of the og Space Battleship Yamato franchise. It makes sense if you’ve known that I’ve been raised on science fiction television and movies. I watched the original Star Wars trilogy remasters in the theater when I was a kid, watched reruns of TNG when they were all over tv as well as watching the other portions of 90’s Star Trek. That’s just the beginning and I can probably talk about sci fi television and movie for hours if you let me because I still search for the newer sci fi television series (not as much Star Trek and Star Wars anymore) as they come out because that love has never left me.
This all connects to Space Battleship Yamato because I addicted to anime by the way of science fiction. That’s where my love of Gundam, Macross, Ghost in the Shell, and so many other things came from as well as basic shonen battle stuff. When I was in college and had my own time and space with a decent at that time internet connection, I just dove into all the science fiction and space opera anime that I could find. That is a hunt that is still going on to this day as I still attempt to find more mecha and science fiction stuff while also keeping up with newer things so I am not just stuck in one singular space and get bored of watching anime. But I have gone through all the Space Battleship Yamato films recently because I bought them off Amazon last year and since I’ve only watched one of them before a while back, it was time to get into them again as well as watching the other films.
If you’ve followed me on Bluesky and Twitter, You would know that I’ve been watching these films recently. As well as the Lupin films in between, but I am just watching those just to watch them. Yamato films have become a bigger thing because they are such a bigger thing to me.
Space Battleship September Month Content
So this is where we go with Space Battleship Yamato films and making this a month. Since there is only six of them, I also recruited the help of two other franchises to fill out September with. Those two are also retro science fiction properties which is within theme in my opinion. Let’s go over everything right here:
-Crusher Joe: The Movie (1983)
-Space Adventure Cobra (TV Series) (1982-1983)
-Space Battleship Yamato: The Movie (1977)
-Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato: Warriors of Love (1978)
-Yamato: The New Voyage (1979)
-Be Forever Yamato (1980)
-Final Yamato (1983)
-Space Battleship Yamato: Resurrection (2009)
Why?
This should be just a fun thing that I just want to share with you all because I really loved watching these films. Partially because they are such a big deal in terms of anime history from changing the course of anime for forever to creating clubs out of the localization Star Blazers in the United States years ago. There were also rumors of possibility of new Space Battleship Yamato episodes from the rebooted franchise coming out and I wanted to highlight that too. If the new episodes don’t appear in localization in NA where I am, there are still some good things to talk about with these films. Each one wonderful and soul crushing in their own way.
Be Prepared.
