Crunchyroll Unveils Theatrical Screening Schedule for Bocchi the Rock! Parts 1 & 2 in North America
Crunchyroll has announced that the Bocchi the Rock! Recap Part 1 & 2 compilation anime films will be screened in North American theaters on a limited special engagement run on October 6, 2024. The film will only be available in Japanese with English subtitles.
Originally announced as two separate films, Bocchi the Rock! Recap Part 1 & 2 combines all of season one into one big compilation film, which features a lyric video for the song “Tsukinami ni Kagayake” with new animation created for the opening sequence of the compilation film, as well as a new ending theme song, “Ima, Boku, Underground Kara” by Kessoku Band.
The compilation film will be distributed by Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment, and will also screen in theaters in the United Kingdom on October 7, 2024, France on October 15, 2024, and Australia on October 17, 2024.
Keiichiro Saito (Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept. – Regards co-director, Sonny Boy episode director et al.) is directing the Bocchi the Rock! compilation films after working on the TV anime series. Other staff include Erika Yoshida (Artiswitch, Tower of God) as series screenwriter and scriptwriter, Yusuke Yamamoto (OSHI NO KO opening director, My Senpai is Annoying ending director) as assistant director, Yusuke Kawakami (Wonder Egg Priority action director) as live performance director, and Tomoki Kikuya (Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World) as music composer. CloverWorks is in charge of the animation production.
The Bocchi the Rock! series first aired in October 2022 and ended with 12 episodes later that December. Crunchyroll is streaming the anime series worldwide, outside of Japan.
Aki Hamaji’s original 4-koma manga series was first launched in Houbunsha’s Manga Time Kirara MAX on March 19, 2018 after appearing as a guest work on December 19, 2017. Six tankobon volumes have been released as of August 2023, with a seventh volume due out on October 25, 2024. A spin-off about the supporting character Kikuri Hiroi began serialization in the Comic Fuz website in July 2023.
Yen Press releases the main manga series in English, describing the synopsis of the first volume as:
