Initial Thoughts: Ultraman – A Spider-Man Encounter
I’ve been in a bit of a spot of seeing Western media and Japanese media come together. I mean, clearly one of them was Suicide Squad Isekai. You can read my post about that one to see my clearly definite opinions about it. There is already a Dead Pool samurai manga that I have no interest in even if I heard it’s good. I just have no interest in Dead Pool because I don’t find him fully. But this one interests me the most because I really do like Spiderman and Ultraman is a current obsession. Seeing the two combine felt natural somehow.
This manga starts off in the MCU mangaverse. The pretty standard avengers are fighting a continually devastating battle. New York is getting decimated by Doctor Doom. Of course civilians are constantly getting in the way and possibly killed and Spiderman wants to save them, something which he gets reprimanded by Iron Man for not staying on mission. Someone which Doom notices as he makes fun of the Avengers and then sends Spiderman into a different dimension with a train. Of course he gets transported to Japan.
It’s only been three chapters since this one started, but I already love it to death. Mainly because it captures the side of heroism I really love. This is the true essence of Ultraman as Spiderman watches an unassuming man turn into the giant of light. This is og Ultraman, so that means the main character is Shin Hayata and the SSSP is the crew fighting alongside him. This is the Ultraman that fights to save people but also cares about the Kaiju too. Clearly there is a theme about sacrifices and what heroism truly means 100% amazing things.
So far, all of this is great. I hope to see so much more of it as it really questions what heroism is. The art is incredible and really captures the power of the Avengers and Ultraman too. So far, it really understands the essence of everyone. Also, it’s interesting and unique to see how the world responds to heroism to the point of self sacrifice. I only hope it continues to be as fun and energetic as it moves along. With only four chapters out now, this is just a really good start.
