Madoka Magica: Walpurgisnacht Rising Unveils Exciting New Teaser Trailer
A new short trailer has been released for the Puella Magi Madoka Magica –Walpurgisnacht Rising- anime movie, which was recently delayed from winter 2024 to winter 2025.
The preview shows us, among other things, Madoka and Homura dancing together, a black-clad person with wings (presumably Homura) tumbling out of the sky, and Nagisa wandering through a surreal landscape of tilted high-rises with a giant statue dominating the center. There’s also a mysterious bespectacled girl whose kintsugi-repaired cup contains a mini diorama.
Aside from the release of the new Walpurgis no Kaiten trailer, it was announced that the preceding Puella Magi Madoka Magica movies (two recaps and one original movie) will be receiving an Ultra HD Blu-ray release. Also, the original movie, Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Rebellion, will have a revival screening in Japan beginning October 25 JST.
Walpurgis no Kaiten was first announced in April 2021. Its first trailer was released in September 2023. It is the sequel to 2013’s Rebellion, which was a continuation of the 2011 TV anime Puella Magi Madoka Magica.
Crunchyroll describes the original TV series as:
She has a loving family and best friends, laughs and cries from time to time… Madoka Kaname, an eighth grader of Mitakihara middle school, is one of those who lives such a life. One day, she had a very magical encounter. She doesn’t know if it happened by chance or by fate yet. This is a fateful encounter that can change her destiny- This is a beginning of the new story of the magical witch girls.
The now-defunct Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story spin-off game received its own TV anime, which began with a 2020 first season and ended in April 2022 with the four-episode Final Season. Final Season was also subject to a “production circumstances”-related delay, with late 2021 being its original release window. The eight-episode second season aired from August 2021 to September 2021.
A new Madoka Magica game, Madoka Magica: Magia Exedra, is currently in production.
