Mugen Train: UK Cinema Release Date for Demon Slayer the Movie Revealed
With cinemas tentatively set to re-open across the United Kingdom from 17th May 2021, Funimation (formerly known as Manga UK) have become the country’s first anime distributor to announce a post-lockdown return to the big screen with Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train. The highly anticipated film is currently slated to open in the United Kingdom on 26th May 2021 and will be available in Japanese with English subtitles, English dub, or in IMAX (Japanese w/subtitles only). A release date for the Republic of Ireland will be announced at a later date.
Set after the events of the first anime series, Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train continues the story as Tanjiro and his merry gang of whiny and boar-headed lads embark on a new mission, joining the Flame Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku as they investigate the disappearances of passengers on board the titular train. The film is canon, adapting Volumes 7 and 8 of Koyoharu Gotouge’s Shonen JUMP manga series.

Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugan Train is animated by ufotable (Fate/stay night Heaven’s Feel) and was released in cinemas across Japan and Asia last year, and was a bit of a success. With many blockbusters delayed or otherwise interrupted due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the film smashed box office records to become the highest grossing film of all time in Japan, and the worldwide fourth highest grossing film of 2020 – ahead of Christopher Nolan’s Tenet.
The first season of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba was broadcast in 2019, and is streaming on Crunchyroll, Funimation, and Netflix, with Anime Limited releasing the series on home video. A second season, following the events of this film, is slated to begin in 2021.
